What is breast cancer?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast multiply uncontrollably, becoming cancerous and resulting in the appearance of a mass of transformed cells (tumour), with abnormal growth and multiplication. <\/p>

Breast cancer usually originates in the mammary gland, specifically in the ducts or tubes that carry milk to the nipple, or in the lobules, which are the glands that produce milk.<\/p>

It is a disease that mainly affects women, although it can also occur in men.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Early diagnosis programme<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since 1982, the IVO has had an Early Diagnosis Unit<\/strong> that carries out mammography screenings for breast cancer.<\/p>

The diagnostic method par excellence is the mammography<\/strong>, a simple and quick examination that accurately reveals the state of the breast at the time it is performed.<\/p>

The early detection programme is freely available to women from the age of 40 on, or to women of any age if they are referred by their doctor. If there are any risk factors, the screening should be started earlier, and the specialist will be the one to select the most appropriate screening and the frequency.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
